Managed Futures
Managed futures describes an industry comprised of professional money managers known as Commodity Trading Advisors ("CTAs") who manage money on a discretionary basis by trading the futures markets. Since futures markets have practically a zero correlation to other asset classes, managed futures may potentially be a good way to diversify your portfolio. CTAs use different trading strategies, including options on futures, to try to take advantage of the global commodities markets. Unlike other money managers, a CTA can potentially profit in up, down or even sideways markets. The growth of managed futures has been exponential in the past 10 years growing 700%. In 2002 it was estimated that $45 billion dollars was under management by CTAs. By the end of 2007 that number had grown to $200 billion dollars. Investors should be aware that there are no guarantees of profit no matter who is managing your money. Trading futures and options involves substantial risk of loss and is not suitable for everyone.
Whitehall Investment Management has access to an exclusive list of CTAs. Many of these CTAs have different trading strategies thus allowing you to diversify among managers and trading strategies to attempt to maximize returns while managing risks. A Whitehall Account Executive can discuss the various CTAs that are available through our Firm and can help you determine the appropriate manager(s), investment amount(s) and allocation (if using multiple managers), to best fit your individual investment needs and risk tolerance.
Each CTA has its own disclosure document and track record which are important documents that you must review carefully before investing.
